The largest Indigenous souvenir market in South America can be found in Otavalo. This one-day trip is a full day of culture and scenery of the Andes Mountains. You leave Quito to the north and come back with more than just souvenirs.
The 2 hour drive from Quito to Otavalo offers classic Andes scenery. Along the way you stop to taste local delicacies and visit a traditional weaving workshop. Here you see how traditional Indigenous cloth is still made by hand.
In Otavalo you explore the great market. This market is famous for its handmade ponchos, scarves and textiles. From there your guide takes you to Cuicocha, a famous crater lake with a viewpoint made for pictures. The last tourist spot is in Peguche. Here you visit the waterfall and a family workshop about traditional Andean instruments. Enjoy a relaxed drive back to your hotel.
